Group Dog Classes

Class Descriptions and Schedule – CALENDAR YEAR OF 2012 (Updated 5/2/12)

PLEASE READ: Required vaccines by age group
7-11 weeks: First DHPP vaccine, bordatella for all puppies at least 8 weeks of age, and a negative fecal exam.

12-18 weeks: Two DHPP and bordatella vaccine and a negative fecal. Leptospirosis is recommended but not required.

5 months and up: Three DHPP’s, rabies, bordatella and a negative fecal.

Note: Any dogs one year and older must have DHPP done every 3 years and rabies according to state law. While we strive to keep everyone healthy, there are limitations to the bordatella vaccine and fecal checks. With the bordatella vaccine, your dog can still get the disease, just a milder case. Typically bordatella is not life threatening. When a fecal exam is performed, they are only looking at a small amount of the stool sample under the microscope, so a negative fecal does not guarantee that your dog (or others in your class) is truly negative.

*Please note: This is our vaccine protocol. No exceptions will be made! If your veterinarian does something different you must still have these done. This vaccine protocol is supported by AAHA’s (American Animal Hospital Association) vaccine recommendations. With bordatella, your dog must be vaccinated with the intranasal vaccine at least one week (7 days) prior to class. If your pet has received the injectable vaccine and it is the first bordatella he has had in his life, it must be boostered 2-4 weeks after the initial vaccine, and again must be given at least a week before starting classes. This is to protect your dog and the others in class. We require vaccine records mailed, dropped off, emailed or faxed to us PRIOR to the start of class. You can fax them to (330)534-6070. We appreciate your compliance.

Training a Therapy Animal

This class helps you to learn what would be expected of you and your dog to become a therapy animal. Our dogs are such a huge part of our lives, and adding this “helping others” element to the mix really brings a new dimension to the human-animal bond. We practice steps of the evaluations, to get everyone comfortable in learning what would be expected for any of the 3 national registries. This class is 2 hours long, and runs for 8 weeks. The first hour is classroom learning, and the second hour is practicing.

Fee: $150.00 (Testing not included)
Start Dates:
9/8 Saturday 2:45-4:45pm (We will skip October 27) 2 SPOTS LEFT.
